Diamond Information
How to choose a diamond? G.I.A all the way... Independent and nonprofit, GIA is considered the final word on a diamond's authenticity and quality. GIA developed the 4Cs and the International Diamond Grading System, the grading standard adopted by jewelry professionals around the globe. GIA screens every gemstone to identify synthetics, simulants and known treatments. Experts gemologist examine each diamond under controlled lighting and viewing conditions, in order to provide the most rigorous assessments of a diamond's 4Cs. Every GIA diamond grading report or Diamond Dossier contains these assessments along with additional descriptive information and state-of-the-art security features. Regarded as premier gemological credentials by international gem professionals and fine jewelry houses, GIA reports accompany the world's most legendary diamonds-and now, quite possibly, yours. GIA Facetware® is a free online service that allows you to access GIA's database of more than 38.5 million diamond proportion sets in order to estimate the cut grade for any standard round brilliant diamond in the GIA D-to-Z color range and Flawless-to-I3 clarity range. To predict a cut grade for a round brilliant cut diamond, GIA Facetware® requires the input of the following proportions: total depth, table size, crown angle, pavilion angle, star length, lower-half (lower-girdle facet) length, girdle thickness, and culet size, as well as the diamond's polish and symmetry grades. Visit their website for details and to use the GIA Facetware® calculator. All parameters are given default values when the application is first opened.
